about

I had the beginning riff for this track knocking around for a while and I didn't quite know how to progress with it. I ultimately decided to do an immediate tempo/key change which I was really happy with. I think it gives the whole thing a cool gear-shift even though I use it again at the end. It probably overstays it's welcome, but I couldn't be bothered to write another non-repeating part so I'm fine with it.

The lyrics are about as sparse as they were on Typhoid. I think after spending so much time on the instrumentals I don't like covering up too much of them with a voice. I try to only place vocals over parts that repeat so that you can clearly hear the melodies at least once.

This was my first time writing a guitar solo for a song. I'm definitely not a speed-player (I hesitate to even call myself a guitarist since I don't take it that seriously) but I don't have any issues with it. It's not the most creative piece of writing - I feel like I was hovering around the same six notes the whole time and I wasn't doing anything that musically impressive. Regardless, I wanted the track to have a solo, so here we are.

I'm a bit happier with the production quality this time, but it's still no masterpiece. I may ninja-edit all of these tracks if I ever get better at mixing.

lyrics

When pulled from the void an existence can snake upwards or sink below the coffin.
The realization of inefficacy is the grim seed of corruption.

To fail in ones ambition, and fall to the path of banality.
A sad circumstance to behold.

The incompletion of one's will, now passed to another.

No light exists for them to see their own bleak personality.

Reach out and revert - the desperate soul seeks not to hurt.
Repulsion of oneself is the fatal nail driven into the coffin.

When pulled from the void an existence can snake upwards or sink below the coffin.
The realization of inefficacy is the grim seed of corruption.
